Christine Noel was named artistic director by the Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2013, for the Singers’ 42nd season. Long a part of the Singers artistic leadership as associate conductor, Noel has prepared the Providence Singers for performances of Messiah, Carmina Burana, and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. She is the founder and artistic director of the Rhode Island Children’s Chorus, an award-winning choral organization for youth, which now serves children age 7 to 18, offering six performance ensembles and an artistic staff of nearly a dozen members.

An active festival clinician and adjudicator, Noel holds a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University, where she was a student of Ann Howard Jones and David Hoose. She studied in Italy for several years and completed the superior level of Italian studies at the University of Florence. She also served as assistant conductor and vocal coach for Italian choirs Animae Voces and Coro Polifonico di Caricentro di Firenze. A recipient of a Ridgway Shinn Fellowship in 1998, Noel is a graduate of the Kodály Institute of Music in Kecskemét, Hungary.
